The writing has been on the wall for local newspapers for a while as their ad money and readers drain away to online news and social media. This was brought home to me yesterday visiting the Diss Express offices.
The reception is no longer open. So I was shown into a large open plan office that’s now mothballed because it’s far too big for the only two reporters left. Ironically, I’d gone there to promote a new form of local television, featuring local people using smartphones to report.
I felt awkward, the way you do when you’re fit and healthy and have to visit someone who’s desperately ill.
